One glorious day a few months ago, I received in the mail a package containing the beautiful bounty above.
There aren’t too many things I miss about being gluten-free, but one of them is definitely rugelach. We used to have them for dessert every Friday night when I was growing up, but I hadn’t eaten one in years. Until now 🙂
I had totally written off store-bought gluten-free baked goods. Let’s be honest, most of them suck. They’re dry, crumbly, the texture is weird, and sometimes they don’t even taste good. Katz Gluten Free has some of the most delicious gluten-free baked items I have ever tasted.
Katz Gluten Free is NOT a Passover dessert company masquerading as gluten-free to extend their buying power throughout the year (this is a huge pet peeve of mine). They use gluten-free flour substitutes that include tapioca, rice, and sorghum.
My favorite items from this box are the cinnamon rugelach, followed closely by the chocolate ones, the raspberry tarts, and the chocolate chip cookies. The sliced challah and small challah rolls are pretty good too–the first gluten-free bread I’ve had that actually has a nice texture even when it’s not toasted.
In the interest of full disclosure, I received the items shown above for free. They are pretty expensive, and although I do believe in periodic food splurges, these items cost to much to buy for everyday snacking. However, they have free shipping for orders over $30, and everything I received stores very well in the freezer, so you can buy a bunch of different baked goods and just pull things out piecemeal for a Shabbat treat.
If you want to try a selection of Katz Gluten Free goodies before you buy whole packages, they have a great sampler you can order for free, you just pay shipping.
