On Eating, Writing, Retreating

Wow. I just finished an amazing weekend at my first food blogger conference, Eat, Write, Retreat! I learned so much and met so many wonderful people, and it’s going to take me some time to digest it all (pun intended. Wow did we eat a lot!), but here are a few first thoughts.

  1. Spending a weekend with foodies is inspiring and invigorating.
  2. Shauna James Ahern (a.k.a. Gluten Free Girl) is even cooler in person, and made the most profound statement of the entire weekend: Blog because you love it, and for no other reason. (More about this in a later post.)
  3. It feels great to make an obscure food comment and nobody looks at you funny.
  4. Having a gluten-free blog is not as niche as I would have thought.
  5. Don’t underestimate the amount of swag you’ll get at a food blogger conference! I had to call AK to come and pick me up with my car 🙂

Thanks to Robyn Webb and Casey Benedict for putting on such a great conference!

Thanks again to all of my readers for joining me as I cooked through Salad as a Meal.

Eat, Write, Retreat!

Next month, I will have the privilege to attend my first food blogger conference: Eat, Write, Retreat! And it’s right here in DC!

I can’t begin to describe how excited I am. When I has no idea how big the food blogger world is, especially the food allergy food blogger world. I’ve met so many wonderful people virtually, and I can’t wait to meet some of them in person!

In particular, I’m excited to meet Shauna Ahern, better know as Gluten-Free Girl. Her blog is a constant inspiration, and as a gluten-free blogger myself, she’s everything I hope to be one day.

It’s not too late to register for this conference! Check out the exciting line of up speakers, the packed schedule of events, and awesome giveaways like an entire line of kitchen electrics from Calphalon! You know you don’t want to miss this.

An Exciting End to 2010

Dear Readers,

As we wind down 2010, I wanted to share some good news–while AK and I were away on vacation this week, he proposed! We were at Monticello in Charlottesville, VA (the site of our first trip together). As we stood on the “nickel side” of Thomas Jefferson’s house (pictured on the back of the nickel), I turned around to find AK on one knee. What a way to ring out 2010!

Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy New Year!
